Claire’s Yoga Cabin – FAQ’s

“True yoga is not about the shape of your body, but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; yoga is to be lived. Yoga doesn’t care about what you have been; yoga cares about the person you are becoming”.

I’m new to Yoga will I fit in?

Yes, all our yoga classes are fully inclusive, suitable for all levels and ages and beginner-friendly.  The classes are a combination of beginner and regular students and its not about how well you do the poses that matters but how attentive and engaged you are in the practice.  Modifications and the ability to say no to a pose is always an option and you will never be pushed to do anything that you are not comfortable with.  Creating a space of ease and encouraging you to do what best suits your body and energy at the time is an important focus in all of the classes.  Class sizes are small so I can ensure you are well looked after and learn what best suits you and your needs.  The student base is a varied age range from 12+ to 90ish, with the majority of my students being in their middle years.

You are most welcome along and will be greeted with a smile and no expectations.

Do I need to be flexible to do Yoga?

No, Yoga is a whole mind and body experience, and you don’t need to be flexible, fit or strong to start Yoga, although these skills will develop as you progress through your Yoga journey.  Many people take up Yoga to help with movement and flexibility issues, so if you are not flexible, don’t worry you will not be alone and it is not the sole purpose of your Yoga journey.

I have injuries or health concerns and I’m often in a lot of pain, can I still do Yoga?

Many people join Yoga classes to help manage pain and assist with recovering from injury.  Please always ask your doctor before starting Yoga and be sure to communicate with me about any injuries or health concerns you may be experiencing, or if anything changes for you through your journey on the mat with me.  It is important to gain a recommendation from your doctor before undertaking Yoga classes to ensure it is a good fit for you.   A doctor or physio may have suggestions as to what not to practice in class and this will be helpful to ensure you benefit the most from your practice.  I can often adapt most Yoga poses to suit your needs and am happy to chat with you about your concerns.  I am experienced in teaching students with a range of life conditions; however, I am not a doctor or trained specialist.

How do I get to the Yoga Cabin?

The Yoga Cabin is located at 99 Range Road South, Houghton.
View in Google map

Please park at the house and enter through the wooden side gate, make your way past the house and down the track past the chook house to the cabin.  The track to the cabin is a long downward slope and the walk is manageable by most, but please wear sensible footwear (sneakers or walking shoes are ideal) but definitely no heels.

Night classes are well lit for walking to the cabin and for parking, during wet weather you may wish to bring an umbrella.

Do you have car parking available?

There is plenty of parking on the gravel driveway (park anywhere on the gravel) and in front of the house between the trees.  Alternatively, if you want to go for a walk after class you can park on Anstey Hill Recreational Park grounds through gate 18 where there is parking.

What do I need to bring?

All the equipment you need to enjoy your Yoga class safely and comfortably is provided.  Equipment is regularly sanitised in line with the latest COVID 19 regulations; however, you are welcome to bring your own mat and Yoga equipment if available.  In addition to a Yoga mat and any equipment, it is recommended that you bring a drink and a towel/throw/blanket.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.  Yoga pants, leggings or tracksuit are ideal.  You are encouraged to practice Yoga barefoot, but socks can be worn at the beginning or end of practice when doing floor work.

As there is a short walk down to the Yoga studio please dress for the weather and remember to wear suitable footwear for the walk down to the cabin.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of class.  This will allow you time to store your personal items in the special shelves on the deck and set up your mat and equipment.

If you are new to the cabin, or Turramurra class, please allow enough time to complete the consent form, advising and chatting with me in regards to any injuries or health concerns you may have.

Some students arrive early to spend time relaxing in the tranquil gardens before practice and you are most welcome to do this too.

Where can I store my personal items during the Yoga class?

There is custom-built shelving available on the deck where you can safely store your personal items.  Your mobile will be requested to be on silent and placed with your belongings.
